2030世界杯的赛制已经因其复杂性和潜在的环境破坏力而遭到批评，因为球队和球迷需要乘坐大量航班通行，如果参赛球队再从48支增至64支，这种影响将成倍增加。
据悉，一名足球界的高级官员称这一想法是“完全疯狂”的，并表示希望“以最快可能”否决该提案。他相信乌拉圭的代表得到了鼓励才提出此提案，并将其提交至国际足联理事会。另有消息人士称，国际足联主席因凡蒂诺早在此前就清楚乌拉圭的代表会站台64队扩军提案。
